Report from Oshkosh 2009

This summer marked Terrafugia's fourth year as exhibitors at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI.  By all accounts it was our best yet.  We continue to be a major draw: with overall show attendance up from last year, calm moments were few and far between around the Proof of Concept for the entire week.  Thank you to all of you that came by to show your support!  Appearances by the Airbus 380, Burt Rutan's WhiteKnightTwo, and the crew of US Airways Flight 1549 highlighted the week's events. Terrafugia's CEO & CTO Carl Dietrich also gave two very well-attended forums over the course of the week describing the testing program that the Proof of Concept completed this past spring.

Technical Update     

Thanks to some new corporate sponsors, including ANSYS and Dassault Systemes, Terrafugia's engineering team has been able to apply the latest in computational modeling to the optimization and design of the next Transition® to be built, the Beta Prototype.  By using these sophisticated tools for modeling the air flow around the vehicle (with computational fluid dynamics, or CFD) and the way the structure of the plane carries loads (with finite element analysis, or FEA), our team is able to take the Transition® to the next level.  The image at right is a model of the Proof of Concept in flight.  By comparing actual flight test data to the computational models, we were able to fine-tune the analysis to within 1%, making this a very useful tool.
