Technical Update

Isolation and optimization of the detailed design of the next Transition® prototype is nearing completion.  Finite element analysis (FEA) of the suspension and other components has been ongoing to optimize the weight of the parts while maintaining the necessary stiffness and strength.

Subsystem mock-ups of key human-factors items such as the door, cockpit, seat and dash have been built and are undergoing evaluation. A final aerodynamic analysis cross-check and external detailed design review will wrap up this stage of the development program over the course of this coming spring.

Terrafugia Supports Connect a Million Minds

The Connect a Million Minds campaign is a $100 million effort by Time Warner Cable to inspire students to pursue math, science and engineering through after school activities.  Terrafugia's Carl and Anna Dietrich were featured along with the Transition in an exciting video piece.  Watch it and other featured stories online at: http://connectamillionminds.com/ (You can select videos with the numbers at the bottom of the frame.)

As Carl Dietrich says in the film, "You can't do this [the Transition®] without that [math]."  We encourage the students on our list to stay involved in math, science and engineering -- you never know what you can accomplish with those basic tools! -- and ask the rest of you to share your passion for technology with the young people in your life.
