progress continues on the Transition® Proof of Concept vehicle, the computer
graphics have been updated to give a more accurate preview of the vehicle’s
finished state. In that spirit, and in
preparation for Oshkosh this summer, the merchandise in the Terrafugia Company Store at www.terrafugia.com/store.html has also been
updated. Take a minute now to get the perfect hat or T-shirt to wear to Oshkosh
this summer!
Some
of the updates you’ll notice in the images of the Transition® include a
skylight, a graphics design for the Transition® by AirGraphics LLC, and updates
to the lights and suspension.Terrafugia
would like to thank Benjamin Schweighart (www.4dartist.com) for his continued

Transition® Proof of Concept
Development Update
The
Terrafugia Proof of Concept development team has made substantial progress on
the first flying and driving prototype of the Transition®.The large composites components for the
fuselage and empennage have been completed and either fully assembled or
fit-checked. Detailed design has been completed. Drive- and flight-critical
hardware is currently being manufactured and installed, including the
suspension system. The photo at right shows a test fit of the safety glass windshield that was custom-built for the Transition® Proof of Concept.
The
engineering mockup of the Transition® cockpit that made its debut at the Sport
Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL is currently being given a face-lift by Oxford Aviation
in Oxford, ME to be ready for the public at Oshkosh this summer.
In
addition to the construction of the Proof of Concept, test plans are under
development for static, drive and flight testing to be conducted over the
second half of this year.
Terrafugia Meets with
D.C. Leaders
Terrafugia
CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich, VP of Business Development Richard Gersh, and COO Anna
Mracek Dietrich visited with federal regulators in Washington, D.C. in
mid-May.Meetings with both the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) were very positive. Both agencies expressed a willingness to work
with Terrafugia to bring the Transition® to the general aviation
marketplace.Falling well within the Low
Volume Manufacturer limits from an automotive perspective, Terrafugia will be working
with the NHTSA and EPA regulations to make the Transition® one of the safest
and most environmentally friendly general aviation aircraft available. The team also met with members of the
Massachusetts congressional delegation and their staff to introduce them to the
cutting-edge aircraft manufacturer that has the potential to bring a
significant number of jobs to their districts.
While in the D.C. area, the team paid a visit to Waterman's Aerobile at the Smithsonian. Pictured here is Aerobile #6, built in 1937.
